Review: Kissed By a Cowboy

I went out on a limb with this book. I'm not into fluffy romances very much, and I'm not really into cowboys either.

(No offense.)

But I thought this book might be a light, frivolous read. I have a lot going on in my life right now. There's been a lot of difficult "life" happening with some people I love dearly. And I really just needed something that didn't require me to think too much.

Debra Clopton's Kissed By a Cowboy was the third book in her "Four of Hearts Romance" series. I had not read the previous two books. I don't think that affected my ability to follow along at all, but I do think I may have enjoyed the book more had I read the first two. I always feel that when you pick up a numbered book in a series, you are having to have a lot of things explained to you very succinctly that other readers took in more deeply.

Either way, this book provided just what I was looking for. It was a light read but did include sub-plots of divorce, alcoholism, infidelity, and infertility/adoption. None of these dominated the pages, however. What really did come through was the underlying message: life is tough sometimes but don't be afraid to try again.

This is the story of Cassidy who was looking for a home and a place to belong ... not a cowboy to steal her heart. And it's the story of Jarrod who has devoted his life to his work ... not a woman. The plot is pretty obvious from the beginning, but I still looked forward each evening to curling up and reading.

If you want something fun and you enjoy small towns and country life (or at least the idea of it), you'll have a good time reading this book. You won't be mesmerized. But you'll enjoy.

***Booklookbloggers.com provided me with a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
