The Little Things

I can't say enough about the people who are reaching out to us at this time -- thanking us with words or small tokens to say they appreciate what John is doing. We have received gifts of equipment or food "fuel" for nurses and doctors delivered both to our home and to the ER. We've received countless emails and texts with encouraging words or notes that say we are being prayed for.

This is SUCH a gift.

Of course, John is FAR from the only person on the front line. Everyone serving the community during this pandemic deserves our gratitude! Grocery store workers are at the top of my list!

May I just say that THANK YOU means a WHOLE lot? Lately I know, John and some other doctors and their families have felt BEAT UP. They are reading from the "social media" experts things that ARE NOT TRUE.

Just this week we have heard that doctors:

  • Get paid extra to put people on a vent.
  • Are told to code people with COVID.
  • Are manipulated by Pharma.
  • Are "bamboozled" into believing things that aren't true.
You get the idea. These comments are truly a SLAP IN THE FACE to the more than two decades of medicine that JB has studied and practiced. A few facts that I thought some might find interesting:
  • John is not employed by the hospital he works for. He is employed by a secondary staffing company specifically so that there is not a conflict of interest in what he does. (Ex. if the hospital received money for him admitting a patient, he might be more likely to admit a patient.)
  • John receives ZERO rewards for anything he diagnoses/uses/ prescribes/suggests/requires in the course of his work.
  • John gets ZERO outside influence in how he codes things or writes things in his notes.
  • John has spent COUNTLESS hours helping friends/family with their medical conditions from our home. He does this often throughout the year, but he has especially been doing it recently in order to keep people from having to leave their homes during this pandemic. He receives ZERO pay for this but does it because it is the right thing to do.
  • Doctors with John's background (wilderness medicine/survival medicine/military) have long thought a pandemic was "coming" but that doesn't mean the world was prepared for it or that the leaders have all the answers.
Take the time this week to THANK those people around you who are working hard during this pandemic: pastors/doctors/nurses/grocery workers/utility workers, etc. Instead of being an armchair quarterback, why don't you try supporting those people who are doing the very best they can for the greater good,
