Our Easter Plans: In a "Jar"

We've never done "much" for our kids for Easter. We have never done Easter baskets. We've bought a few things of candy and had Easter Egg hunts, but we've always kept it simple.

However, this year will be even simpler.

We will, of course, celebrate Christ rising from the dead. In fact, our decision to not do the fun "secular" things that accompany Easter, may mean that our focus becomes even clearer.

I can't take credit for this idea. I saw it online. But we have adopted it in our house. We have a jar on our counter, and we are putting little pieces of paper in it with things we wish we could do but cannot due to this quarantine.

And then, when this whole thing is behind us, we will start taking the paper out and scheduling days to do the things we had wished we could do. It is a sort of "Bucket List" in a "Jar."

Tomorrow we will put a piece of paper in our "Bucket/Jar" that says: "Do all the 'secular' Easter things that we love." And then, someday, when all of this is behind us, we will pick a fake Easter Day, and we will buy the kids some fun Easter stuff, and do a hunt with candy in the eggs, and have a good ol' time.

John could have braved a store for Easter stuff. But our country has asked us to only go in for essentials, and we felt it important to try and share that with our kiddos. That there are times when the "normal" can't be "normal" but that our life can still be wonderful and that fun celebrations can occur at other times.

I hope you consider starting a "Jar" with me. I am determined that someday, when my kids remember this "moment" of their life that is COVID-19, they will remember the fun, the good, the lessons, the love. It will include happy memories of being home together, hunkered down. It will be wonderful,
