All Fall Down

Isaac is in LOVE with this book. It has four pages. It has like twenty-seven words in total. But we read it about 476 times a day. And often that is about a dozen times in a row. His other books, we read once, we put it down, and he gets another. But this one? Read it. Belly pat. Please. Okay. Read it again. And again. And again.

He still loves his dinosaur book, Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs! (shown below). We definitely still read that one quite a few times a day. But is has been passed up by the four pages of All Fall Down.

I wonder how people figure out that kids will like a book so much. And I wonder what makes a kid like a book so much. Many books on our shelf, Isaac will not touch. Or he'll bring them to me, sit down, listen to a page, and get up immediately. And then others he comes back for time and time again.

Like Goodnight Moon. Have you ever read this book? I find it quite strange. And yet Isaac loves it. And it is like the most popular children's book of all time. Somehow, someone knew that kids would love this. Or did they?
Another one on Isaac's current top-10 list? Peek-a-Who? I have to admit that I like this book too. This one is quite a popular pick in our house as well.

So spill everyone. Your kids' favorite books? Or your favorite book as a child. Share away!

Hannah loves most of the Sandra Boynton books. Her current favorite is one called "Your Personal Penguin." Recently, she has really gotten into the "Fancy Nancy" books. These are absolutely adorable books. Also, she is a lover of Goodnight Moon and a book called "Ballerina." I must say I'm quite happy about the last one. :)

Love Goodnight Moon and one of my favorites - the hungry hungry catepillar!

There was another one, I don't remember the name of it but it was with the blue guy from Sesame Street and he kept trying to nail the pages down, build a brick wall, scare you out of turning the page - it made me crack up every time I read it. :)

I loved that Grover book as well!! (The one with him trying to nail the pages!) We also had a whole collection of Disney based books featuring characters like Donald Duck and what not. They weren't movie stories, but other fun stories that were a big hit with my brother and I :)

When Madeline was 2, she loved this Precious Moments book. Reading it at nap time was a ritual. It was quite lengthy, so I would often try to skip a page. She always knew! Also, an interesting book (in the did the author know dept.) is, "Gray Goose". Its in the library. I checked it out for all 3 of my kids when they were around 4. It is a book that literally taught all of them to read at an early age. It rhymes in such a way that at first you read it to them, then they like memorize it, then before you know it they actually recognize the words.
It's so cool how little ones develop such a love for books.

I liked Goodnight Moon a lot too. Isaac can read it anytime with me. I need to raid my mom's basement so Kaia can read all of my old books!

Austin LOVES:

The Little Engine That Could
Baby Beluga (he sings this a lot when we want him to go to sleep at night!)
The Curious George Collections
The "Little Critter" books
Winnie the Pooh
The Gruffalo
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (and its sequels)
the Llama Llama books
The Cat in the Hat
Green Eggs and Ham

He can basically "read" these all on his own as we have read them so many times, he knows all the words.

Books are so much fun! and great for growing brains! Keep reading (even when you're sick of the same book over and over and over and over and over and over and over...).

: ) Lisa

P.S. Check out if you have the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in your area. If you sign up your kids, each child gets a free book in the mail every month from birth to age 5. It's fantastic! Some of Austin's favorite books have come from that. It goes by county, so some place have it and some don't. Definitely check it out!

You're the first person I've ever heard admit they don't "get" Goodnight Moon. I don't understand it either -- it's not a unique storyline, and the pictures aren't great. What's the appeal?
Anyway, around here we love Frog and Toad stories, Llama Llama, and The Naughty Baby. We are finally growing out of MooBaa La la La, thank goodness. I'm sooooo sick of that book. Growing up I loved the Frances series, excellent stories!

- Llama, llama, Red Pajama (TOP by FAR)
- Hand, Hand Finger Thumb
- The Cat in the Hat

Those are our favorites right now. The first two have been favorites for a LONG time!

oh, and the one that your friend Lauren was talking about with Grover is called "The Monster at the end of this Book". I loved it as a kid! I should find that one at the library for my kids....

Oh Definately Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb! I was scrolling down to see if anyone had added it and right at the bottom, Denise did. We love that book!
