We received word yesterday that JB's boss and our friend and my nurse, Cheryl, passed away sometime late on July 4th or early on July 5th. We knew this was the most-likely outcome of her swimming accident, but it was still difficult to hear. JB had been by to see her again on Monday morning and everything was the same with her condition.
The story has become pretty well-established that there was some sort of riptide in the water that day. Cheryl was able to save both her ten-year-old son and her eight-year-old daughter by getting them in the hands of other friends before she herself was swept away. It was well over thirty minutes before she was found in the water that day. CPR was performed from that point until she reached the hospital an hour later, but by then, she had been without oxygen for an extended period of time.
Please pray for Cheryl's parents, her husband, and her two young children. Our Base is small and an accident like this effects many people. We are all feeling the loss of Cheryl and will for quite some time. Please, especially, add those individuals in Cheryl's immediate circle, especially those with her during those final moments who are dealing with the trauma of what occurred on top of her death.

Oh Wendi! I am so very sorry for you and JB, and the rest of the base community in Turkey. Praying for her family and yours!
Oh Wendi, just seeing that picture of Cheryl in her office brought tears back to my eyes. It's been so weird walking by her empty office everyday. It's just so sad and unfair. It makes me hate the ocean, like you said.
My heart breaks for you all. I am praying for comfort from the One who is the source of all comfort...just the way each one needs it right now...I love you honey....It must be hard to be so far right now as well...love Tante Jan
