I'm going to a ball next week. It's an Air Force Ball. For JB, it's easy. He wears his mess dress. For me, a bit more complicated. I have to actually pick something to wear. Lucky for me, I have three dresses to choose from. Here they are as depicted in photos below:
The first is this purple dress from my sister-in-law AD's wedding to my brother back in 2003 I think. Geez I am lost on years here.
A dress I bought for the Mayo ball that we never got to attend in Rochester. I wore it instead to a playhouse for a date with JB. 
The dress I wore in my friend Michelle's wedding way back, like almost ten years ago. But hey ... it's black. it's classic. Right?Please vote in the poll on the right column of my blog. I have to make this decision big time quickly! Help me out folks. Vote soon. My ball attire depends on you.

I say the black one unless there's a winter ball you need to save it for. They booth look smashingly great on you!
I like the pink one.
I think the purple one is the best choice. The black would be my second but I think the purple would be a bit different and you wouldn't see as many people wearing it.
You look gorgeous in all of them. (I know that's not much help...sorry)

I like the purple dress, too. I think it's the deep purple color perhaps.

Pretty in all but really pretty in pink!! It's too hot for the other deep colors.
I voted black - because, as you said, "a classic". However, I saw someone mention the heat. Forgot about that. Also, the comment about having a ball in the Winter you might want the darker colors for. Then the comment about it wearing the one you're most comfortable in was very true to. How about, do you have shoes/bag/earrings to match a certain dress more than another?
You do look "smashing" in all 3! So whatever you end up choosing will be perfect!

Our family voted twice. My son, Victor absolutely says Pink because it is beautiful and sparkly and they other two are kinda plain. ;-)
I voted for purple though myself but I was torn between purple and pink.
I'm usually a black girl...I think it always looks great, but...I LOVE the purple one on you. I think that photo of you and JB at the wedding where you are in that dress is one of my all-time favs!!
I thought black at first but I agree with the idea of spicing it up a bit and going with a color. Purple never fails (let's call it "eggplant" to make it sound even more luxurious)!
