Isaac's allergy

While I write this, I am waiting for JB to get back from the store. Isaac woke up from his afternoon nap with his egg allergy in full force. This is the third time this has happened. But the first two times were after eating cooked eggs. Only this time, he hadn't had any eggs! The only new food he had had today is Swiss cheese. So we have no idea what is going on!

We aren't sure why he had the facial swelling if he hadn't had any eggs unless he is also allergic to cheese? We have an appointment with a pediatric allergy doctor in January so hopefully we'll get some additional answers then. That's actually why I took the photos -- to show them to the doctor.

Today was also a bit different because unlike the previous occasions, this time Isaac just wasn't responding to Benadryl either. It would get a little better and then flare up again. So JB went out to get some liquid Zantac which is supposed to help as well.

I'll keep you all posted on his status. Poor little guy!

Has he had the flu shot recently?

Or has he eaten something that has eggs in it? (Bread, cookies, cake, any other baked goods.) I'm allergic to dairy, which unfortunately means much more than just drinking milk.

He can't get the flu shot b/c he is allergic to eggs ...

So far he has never had an issue with things that have eggs IN them ... this is the first non-egg reaction, so we just don't know.

Ugh.

Evan was allergic to "raw" eggs when he was little. He eventually grew out of it. (as a young boy).

I remember he had a reaction one day and we couldn't figure out why. We finally determined he touched/ate Mayonnaise!

The egg protein allergy can get worse over time. Might just be swollen face and discomfort for now, but be careful, even with stuff that has eggs IN them. At some point his body might have a very strong reaction (difficulty breathing) to something mild (baked goods) that he's eaten fine in the past.

Just speaking from experience of someone that's allergic to most everything out there...

Thanks A. That's why we have the appt. with the allergist. We also have epi pen jr's at home as well ... so hopefully we are prepared for an emergency which in the name of Jesus we'll never need!

Wendi,
If it helps, I am allergic to eggs and dairy like cheese, milk, ice cream etc... I think they go hand in hand. Hope he's feeling better soon.

Love,
Lauren
PS Going to a new doc. and he's really great. You're right. Going to someone you like makes all the difference. We really like him!
