Happy belated birthday to JB

The pictures above are from a little "get together" we had at our house on Friday evening. We had Clay and his wife Brittney and their two daughters over. Clay is a second year resident. We also had Tristan and his wife Shannon and their three boys over. Tristan is a third year resident. We met both of these families through the residency program. They then encouraged us to attend a care group and subsequently our church. They have each invited us over before, but we had yet to open our home to them.

The kids loved Scrubs although four of them at once (the baby was sleeping) left Scrubs feeling a bit outnumbered. He does so well with them unless they start running from him at which point Scrubs thinks the game is for him to catch them. So we have to work at that both on the kid-end and on the dog-end.

JB has been on "ambulatory" for a week now -- a really nice rotation. I knew, as an English major that "ambulatory" had something to do with walking so about halfway through the week I finally figured out that this means procedures that people can "walk away" from. Colonscopys and vasectomys are two of the most popular I believe. JB seems to be enjoying it and especially enjoying getting home at a decent hour every day.

Today we finally celebrated his birthday. I was out-of-town when his real birthday occurred. My mom gave him money for a movie for his birthday so today we went and saw the second National Treasure movie (JB loved it. I thought it was okay) and then hit a sushi place (JB's choice of course) for dinner. We ran a few errands which included JB using some of his gift certificates (from Keith & AD, Mom K., and Aunt Betsy -- thanks guys) to buy two of the knives he wanted at William & Sonoma. He was very excited about this.

We are now back home and planning on spending a low-key rest-of-the-evening together as a family before he goes back on call tomorrow. Tomorrow, I am planning on trying to get an extra day of work in. Tara comes in on Tuesday, and I'd like to be able to take some time off during the week to spend with her so some extra hours will help with this. It's hard to believe that I have only two months left at Mayo. Wow. I will greatly miss my coworkers there despite the distance but am anxious for some more time to get ready for the arrival of our little one.

Speaking of baby arrival -- folks, we finally purchased something for the baby. I know, I know. Aren't your proud? We purchased hangers!!!! We have been so blessed by clothes that last week we purchased 80 hangers and before we had even gotten through half the clothes, ran out! So today we returned for 100 more. Unbelievable!
