Only on an island does JB get to see people who are "boating through." But that's exactly what he got to do last week when Greg & Marie -- who live on their boat -- stopped by the Base. As a retired member of the military, Greg is eligible to see JB as a physician. And as his doctor, we were thrilled when Greg and Marie invited us on board their boat -- parked in the Praia marina, just about 15 minutes from our house.
The boys loved seeing the steering wheel and eating chocolate chip muffins below deck. (Although Isaac wasn't too happy that the boat was going to stay parked!) But after about 20 minutes, we got very stir crazy. It was a tiny boat. Hard to believe that this couple has spent decades living in these close quarters together.
Here is a picture of us as we prepared to deboard. You can tell what good spirits everyone is in, can't you?
That's Greg and Marie (and their boat in the background)
And then, after getting to spend the morning on a real, live, working, boat, we headed to the Base for an "Open House." Various planes (and even a helicopter and fire engine!) were parked on the flight line and accepting visitors for tours. What fun that was!
These planes are so huge! They can fly tanks across the world.
The boys had tons of questions for us -- specifically on the fire and breathing "stuff" hanging on the walls. But when they would meat a pilot, they'd refuse to ask any of their questions.
Here is Sidge sitting in the cockpit of one of the planes.
Isaac's turn.
This is the plane that "Mr. Dan" flies (Angelica's husband.) So we were very excited to see one up and close. Man -- I'd be majorly claustrophic in one of these.
After touring for a bit, we got some food and let the boys jump in some jumpy castles for a bit. It was then time for JB to "get to work." Even though it was a Sunday, he had to man the medical tent for a few hours. So we headed home for naps while he tended to any injuries.
