Ritter and the popping noises

Our male dog, Ritter has major anxiety whenever he hears popping noises. The biggest culprits? Guns and nail guns.

Today, John was sighting-in his rifle in preparation for deer season. (We try to get at least one deer each season for food on our farm.) Ritter canNOT handle this at all. If we put him in a kennel he gets VERY upset. So we try to leave him our with us. However, he is completely out of control. He paces, drools, and tries to sit on top of us for comfort during this time.

In the past, he was actually able to get out of various kennels when he heard these noises. We think it started during our renovation process when there was a lot of nail gun popping going on.

Today, I captured a video of our crazy Ritter. We tried putting Arabelle in the mudroom as when he gets so anxious, she gets riled up and then you have two dogs stepping on your feet.

My dog use to do this with thunderstorms. He could hear them way before us.

Poor Ritter! Our dogs have anxiety issues when we have thunder, my Bunko group plays here, trips to the vet, etc.. We found a calming treat that helps. It is called “Heavely Hound” - shaped like a brownie bar & in a gold foil wrapper. We get them t our local Pet Sense & I have also purchased them on Amazon. It takes about 30 mins for them to kick in but help calm them enough that they’ll settle down/sleep. It isn’t strong enough to put them to sleep, tho. This calming bar is definitely a game changer for us. Good luck!
