We have a crisis in this nation affecting our youth—more than 400,000 children in the United States are living in foster care and over 100,000 of them cannot return to their biological parents because of past abuse or neglect. These precious children are yearning for a lifelong family who will surround them with love and care. We are often asked how long do children in foster care wait for a forever family? On average, children will wait more than a year to be adopted. For a child, it seems like forever.
The N.O.W. (No One Without) campaign is an initiative promoting Foster Care Adoption to help make sure that no child goes without a loving family. Nationwide, an average of 23,000 youth “age out” of the foster care system every year. Over half of these youth lack a high school diploma and within two years, 30% experience homelessness or incarceration. More than half of the young women will have children, who also enter the foster care system, and the cycle continues. We cannot allow this to continue. Together, we can change this, and the time is NOW!
