One week has passed. One week ago today, we were in America. One week later, we are home in Turkey. It can often take two good weeks to get over a seven hour time difference. But I think we knocked it out in about one week.
JB returned to work on Monday. And I returned to my job as a stay-at-home mom. Here's some of the things that we spent our week doing:
Isaac has been asking JB to make "green-pistachio" ice cream. John has tried, but every time he and Isaac made a field trip to the grocery store, the Commissary would be out of cream. But finally, cream was in! So ice cream they made. Of course, it's actually mint. Isaac thinks he likes pistachio, but what he actually likes is mint. Here's a picture of the boys helping JB in the kitchen:
Our friend Patty has been hanging out with us! It just wouldn't be a week in Turkey if Patty didn't come over to our house once or twice. She's a professional ballerina and a lawyer and the slow life here in Turkey can be very difficult for her. Coming to our crazy house definitely cures all cases of boredom. Here's two pictures. First of Isaac and Patty discussing his new car and then of Elijah wearing her boots. (I think they might almost fit him!)
The boys decided to help Fahre wash the car on another one of our first days back. We tried to be outside as much as we could because the sunlight helps your body turn itself over from the time change. We have had a few different gardeners during our time in Turkey. First Halil. Then Ayreef. They all work for Ilhan, but they rotate where they are working on Base. We've loved them all; Fahre, however, has been a real favorite of the boys. He also speaks fantastic English so we can have a lot of good discussions. Halil and Ayreef spoke no English which was better for my Turkish practice, but not so good for actually communicating anything. Here's a picture of the boys "helping":
And here's a picture of Elijah goofing around:
And here they are after I found them with their shoes and pants soaked. I left them with Fahre for a moment, and they stopped helping and started playing. I stripped them down and let them finish playing in their underwear. Why not?
Another awesome bit of our life here? Well, Abigail is sitting up very solidly. Take a look:
I actually convinced both boys to come jump in the picture. Okay, so I actually may have bribed them. But still. The only down side was that Elijah was in his underwear. (He has started sleeping without pants on because when they bunch up, it bothers him and we are very tired of being woken up in the middle of the night to pull his pants legs down.)
We've been catching up with all of family on Base. I had MOPs on Thursday. We had a going away for our friend Mrs. Sarah Ashmore and Scotty. She is the first of our "crew" to sign out of Turkey. Hard to believe the good byes have begun. Mr. Meal and Patty came over for dinner. Lots of park time and bike time. Not enough sleep time. But life has begun to return to normal.
For a few more months. And then our life will begin anew in the Azores.
