I have always been very frustrated that these two very separate kitchen utensils used for very different things, are called the same thing. Numerous times we've been in the kitchen and had to say, "No. Not that kind of spatula. The other kind."
While Tijmen was here, we often would discuss the Dutch word for something. So we found out that in Dutch, these words are very different things.

The first one is also commonly known as a turner, which can be used to differentiate between the two.
We always call the first one a spatula, and the second one we call a rubber scraper.
Yeah, I've definitely heard rubber scraper for the second one as well.
We've always called the first kind a flipper.
I love it. I'm gonna start calling it a pot licker too. I grew up calling the pot licker a rubber spatula (we call the other a spatula). The boys have been taught in their foods class in school that the top one was a turner and the other a rubber scraper.
