Day three in Germany was our favorite day because it was the day we got to pick up Grampa K. and Grama K. (JB's parents) from the airport in Munich. We decided to take both cars out and go to the airport together to greet them. They surprised us by already being out of the airport and waiting for us when we pulled up. Our goal? To keep them awake for the entire day so they could go to bed that night and get their days/nights flipped the right way. What better way to keep them awake then to eat some breakfast at the hotel and then hop on a train to downtown Munich.
Look how beautiful! The city itself is not as old as many cities we have visited simply because so much of it was destroyed in the allies invasion of Munich in WWII. The entire city was nearly leveled in bombings so many of these buildings are 50 and 60 years old instead of the thousands of years you usually see in other European countires.
Watching a "jousting match" in a window of one of these buildings -- a favorite of tourists.
A church.
The weather was in the 40's. A perfect temperature for a beautiful fall day. We couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather.
Mom and Dad with the "jousters" behind them. These are basically little figures that re-enact a famous scene.
The boys wanted to pose with this pig. Grampa K. was quick to oblige.
Taking the underground involves lots of escalators -- not so easy with two strollers and no easy access to elevators.
Leah took us to a fantastic (and famous) restaurant. My friend Leah from college, lives in Munich and spent the second half of the day with us. This sign says: "It is better to be homesick then thirsty."
It was Dad and Mom's first time on a subway.
Bringing the stroller down the escalator sans boys. We had to do this a lot!
Here I am with Abigail on the escalator.
Such beautiful weather!

After a quick morning tour of downtown, we went back to our hotel. We were so blessed to get a family room for our family and a bordering room in a secluded part of the hallway on the main floor. The boys and I took naps in the big room while JB and his parents and Abigail hung out in their room. After naps, Leah came to the hotel where we brainstormed some of the things we wanted to see/do for the rest of our time in Munich. Leah then headed downtown with us for our first evening in Munich. We had dinner and then returned to get everyone, especially our weary travelers (who handled the jet lag amazingly well!) off to bed.
