Ingredients:
- ground beef or turkey (raw)
- 2 medium onions
- American cheese slices
- 1 can green beans (drained)
- 1 bag frozen tater tots
Directions: Put all together as layers, beginning w/ ground meat (bottom) and ending w/ tater tots (top) in casserole dish. Bake at 350 for 2 hours; uncover last 1/2 hour. (Can use any cheese you like and cut down onion or use minced onion. Sometimes use corn instead of beans or 1/2 of each. Totally different taste from turkey or beef).

Wendi's report: This was very easy to make. I made it all by myself with no input or help from JB. To demonstrate what a cooking novice I am, let me tell you that this was the first time, in my life, that I have ever cut up an onion. It was very painful. (JB cuts up onions on a daily basis, but I have refrained up until this point.) This is basically a shepherd's pie with a twist. John and Wendi thought it was good but weren't ecstatic about it, Elijah thought it was fabulous, and Isaac did not try it. While not necessarily a favorite, I think I will make this again based solely on how wonderfully easy this was! So simple even me, a cooking nincompoop, could do it.

This is also good made with corn instead of green beans - in fact that's what I always use.
THANK YOU for posting the recipe! I hope you will continue to do that with ones you try. I am always looking for new things to cook for my food-loving husband :)
Love the pictures of the boys trying the recipes.
I make a similar recipe to this fairly frequently. While I wouldn't say it is "gourmet" :-) it is easy and pretty tasty. My recipe calls for a few additions which I would think might help the recipe you have. There doesn't seem to be much liquid in your current recipe. You may consider adding the following:
1 can cream of celery soup
1/3c. milk
1/4 t. garlic powder
1/8 t. pepper
Mix those four items up and then add that as a layer in the casserole.
it is amazing how reading this reminds me of me trying to cook. Dereck does the cooking for us and I also just cut up my first onion a couple of months ago. I'm enjoying this series of posts, I need easy recipes.
I understand that if you wear sunglasses while cutting up an onion it helps you not to tear up. Try slicing them under running water is another way that I have heard. I personally don't like onions and never use them so I don't really have any experience with these methods.
