Soda, Coke, or Pop?

In order to determine whether you use the word SODA, POP, or COKE, fill in the blank. ____ machine. Do you say COKE machine, POP machine, or SODA machine. In Florida I used SODA (shown in yellow). In Kentucky we said coke (shown in red). In Minnesota we said POP (shown in blue.) I don't know who put together this map but how amazing is this? (You can click on the map to see it in a larger view.)

I think that it's a soda pop machine that holds Coke.

This cracked my up, being from Chicago, then living in MN (so it's a pop machine), but now living in Alabama, EVERYTHING that is carbonated is Coke! Very funny, love the map!

The better question is, "Why did someone come up with this map?"

Soda, soda, soda. I said "pop" accidententally one time last year and said to myself, "You know you've lived in MN too long when..."

Jodi, I KNOW! It always totally had me lost. Do you want a coke? If so, what KIND. So weird. I've had trouble adjusting but have just stuck to soda. I can't keep "changing".

Ebby, that is HILARIOUS! SO TRUE!

Cool map! I've lived in IL, FL, KS, MO, HI, and currently TX. The map seems pretty on target. It was a big adjustment when I moved to TX. EVERYTHING was Coke down here. If someone says, "Wanna Coke?" You always respond positively if it's carbonated, but you have to clarify it. "Sure, I'll take a Dr. Pepper/Sprite/Root Beer."

I still think it's weird and I've been here for almost 10 years now.

I remember living in IL as a little girl (early/mid 70's) and there was this cool store called "The Pop Shop". It was HUGE had every imaginable soda pop flavor in the world. Does that sound familiar to any of you Mid-Westerners?
