Love sharing the natural world with my kids, and there has been lots of wild animal interactions on the farm over the past few weeks.
This Eastern Screech-Owl (Megascops asio) was found by our cousins after being attacked by some animal and unfortunately wouldn’t be able to survive much longer. It had an injured skull and eye. It had to be euthanized by a vet/friend of ours, but we got to spend a few hours with it first.
This Carolina Wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus) managed to get in the house and find its own way out... only to return again within the hour, the second time we finally caught it and got it outside for good.
Then there’s the Southern Two-Lined Salamander (Eurycea cirrigera).
And a Five-Lined Skink (Plestiodon fasciatus).
Good memories!
