Well, since baby still isn't here, let's pass the time with something else. How about some videos of good ol' Scrubby?! :)
JB and I spent a lot of time playing with Scrubs this weekend. We keep saying, "This may be the last time ..." So this weekend we said this may be the last time we can play with Scrubs without Isaac being here. And we decided to make the best of it that we could. Saturday we took him to the dogpark and then to play Frisbee in the water on the bay. We found a new beachfront without any barnacles that he can safely go after his Frisbee without danger of getting his leg cut up again. After this, it was time for a bath!
This afternoon, we took Scrubs over to the bay to play Frisbee on the grass. I usually take him over 4-5 times a week to do this. Just fifteen minutes leaves him tired for hours. It is great exercise for him. He seems to get more tired doing this than he does going on a walk or even a run with me.
I tried to get a video of him successfully catching the Frisbee, but it didn't work out. There has to be a good combination of wind, thrower, and focused Scrubs to have successful catching. So today was just Scrubs "shagging" the Frisbee on the bay. He loves to slide in the grass as you'll see in the video. Sorry I didn't capture a successful catch. Maybe another day.
Scrubs is obsessed with his Frisbee. I keep it a cabinet above the dryer so he can't sit around and chew on it. He will sit in front of the dryer and just cry and cry and cry, begging me to take it down. As soon as he sees it, he goes crazy. He would play with all day if I let him.
After playing Frisbee for awhile, Scrubs' best bud Deuce came out to play. Deuce lives right there on the water, and if he sees us, will usually instruct his owner that he wants to go out and see Scrubs. His owner, Bobbie brings him out quite often. She's a wonderful veteran military wife. They have four children who love to play with Scrubs, yell at Deuce for getting too "frisky" with Scrubs, and throw the Frisbee to Scrubs. Playing with Deuce also helps wear Scrubs out. Here's a quick video of the two of them playing. They are exactly the same age which makes them great partners in crime.
After our afternoon at the bay, we went to a birthday party for Rob and his daughter Della. Rob turned 30 and Della turned 1. I can always count on Joia to capture the day in photos. I also love Joia's eye for a picture. Here pics are always so good and are always getting better! It was a fun get-together. We are so blessed by all the wonderful friends we have made here and especially by how close we all live to each other. I love the neighborhood camaraderie that develops on base. I doubt we'll ever have this type of environment ever again.
After eating too much ice cream cake, we took Scrubs for a long walk. There's a place by the flight line that we can let him off the leash and just let him run through the sand. He loves it. JB and I can just walk and talk and hang out together.
Despite my migraine, we just had a wonderful weekend as a family. Maybe the last weekend we'll ever spend together again, just the three of us! Any day now. Any day. I've really learned patience during the last week or so. I'm becoming very good at it.

It's me, signing out. Goodnight.
How have you gotten Scrubs to listen to you when he's off the leash and not run off when you're at the park, beach, etc.? My dog listens well at home, but if he sees another dog or person, he wants to run after them to say "hi!" and will. not. listen. If he gets it in his head, there's no changing it, even though he knows it's wrong and he's going to be in trouble.
Well, quite honestly, what I have has to be greater than what he is leaving for. When we are in this area, the frisbee is a major "positive". He loves that thing so much that he won't usually leave it for anything. However, the other day we were out there and there were 10 kids having a birthday party outside and he got so excited that he went running and weaving in and out from them dodging all of them as they tried to chase him. :)
Another thing is, the Dalmatian breed in general is not a "run away" breed ... they stick very close. But otherwise, I think the answer is simply that he likes the frisbee more than he likes anything else that is there.
Amy ... you crack me up.
