Craziness in two forms

I have two bits of good news.

The first is that we now know that our dog Scrubby has the ability to be a hunting dog. His sense of smell is something to be reckoned with.

Just ask Stebbins.

The proof?

He busted out of the house when Veronica opened the door yesterday and followed the scent of me and the boys four blocks to where we were playing at the Youth Center Park.

Stebbs and I were standing there talking when all of a sudden we looked down and saw ... Scrubs. Scrubs? For a moment, both Stebbs and I found ourselves looking at each other in complete shock. Almost an out-of-body experience. "Is this your dalmatian?" Stebbs asked. "I think so," I said back. "Is there another Dalmatian on Base?" She asked. "There's not," I said. "It's Scrubs."

As he ran off a few feet to mark a tree, four little boys came running with treats in their hand calling his name. Veronica had enlisted their help to lure Scrubs back home. I took the treats, thanked them, and Scrubs followed us all the four blocks back to our house nibbling treats the whole way.

Craziness.

But if that is not the craziest news you've heard today, this definitely will be.

Me. Wendi. And my kids. Three of them. Flying home to America. In just over a month. Seriously.

It's a long story. But it involves the fact that JB has two conferences to attend. Each a week long. Two weeks that I'd be here by myself with the kiddos anyways.

Add to that the fact that I miss my home and my family and my country quite a lot.

And so, I have decided to make the trip home to America.

The only catch?

I must do it alone. JB has no leave left. Therefore I must travel across half our world with all three kids by myself.

Am I scared?

Yes.

However, here is what I know. If I get on the plane, I will eventually get off. I can't just give up part of the way through the flight. It might be exhausting. Okay, so it most definitely will be. But I will succeed. And when we get off the last plane, some 36 hours later, we will be home. For a month.

And that is worth it.

Craziness. But really exciting!

Go Scrubs!!! And that's awesome you get to come back! I completely understand your fears. I have them to about traveling with the kids. But you have to have a "will NOT be defeated" attitude. The I am defeated attitude will want to creep back, but we have to stay strong and when we get on the other side we can stand up and say, "Look at what I did!" And if anything bad happens, just know you can laugh about it in a couple months and for years to come. You know, once the shock has worn off! : )

Wonderful news Wendi! So happy you get to go back home. Especially, since this wasn't a long-planned event. Surprise! BUT...what I anticipate? That someone (or two someones) on that long flight fall in love with your kiddos and WANT to help you out. Playing with a cute boy or two or snuggling with a little princess...it would make my 36 hour flight more palatable for sure! You'll do fine!

I was recently on a plane with a woman traveling alone with her children. Infact, she asked me if I could move so she could have several seats together. So many people offered to help her as she boarded, during the flight, and in the terminal. In lieu of carseats she had broguht her own restraints for her boys. The baby was in a carrier. I looked it up on line for your - they are called CARES airplane restraints. Costly, but this lady swore by them. Here's some info:

•CARES stands for Child Aviation Restraint System. Each CARES contains a convenient carrying bag with the CARES restraint, step-by-step installation DVD and instruction card.

◦CARES is a harness-type safety device designed for children who weigh between 22-44 lbs and are sitting in their own airplane seats. (Generally 1 – 4/5 years old.)

•CARES is the first – and only – harness-type aviation child restraint certified by the FAA for use on all U.S. registered aircraft – the only alternative to a car seat.

◦CARES takes the place of a car seat when traveling by air with young children and provides an equivalent level of safety (ELOS) to a car seat. (Stated in the FAA certification designation.)

Hope this helps a little. But also cling to the verse, "I can do ALL things..." and we will pray that God brings many loving, helping hands to assist you during your flight!
