Salt or pepper?

So here's a debate that took place at our table on Thanksgiving. Which shaker has more holes: the salt shaker or the pepper? In other words, I had these cute little Thanksgiving holiday shakers. One had three holes. One had two. Which one do you put the salt in?

Let's hear what you all think . . . without googling. Then we'll tell you what we found thanks to the handy dandy Internet.

No cheating folks!

The salt definitely goes in the one with the most holes since most people would put more salt than pepper on their food and so it needs to come out faster. That has been the case with every set I have ever used wherever it is. It would be funny to find out after all this time that this was wrong. = )

The salt has more holes... though I think it should be the pepper with more holes because too much salt is bad for you so it should come out slower in the hopes that you'll give up and not put so much on your food!

Salt has more holes. I'd be interested to see if Google agrees though.

I must disagree...the salt goes in the one with the least amount of holes and the pepper in the one with the most holes.

I was always told the pepper goes in the shaker with more holes because it's not as easy to come out as the salt is. But I have heard of many many other people who do it the other way.

I'm going with the last two posters. Salt goes with less holes because it comes out faster. Pepper needs more holes because it is harder to get out.

Salt definitely has more holes to let more out. Generally, people want less pepper so it has fewer holes.

I was always told and believed that its supposed to be pepper in the one with more holes as salt is both smaller-grained and not as good for you.

Personally I hate pepper and love salt and am lucky to still have low bp, so I put salt in the shaker with more holes.

Oh and I have a couple sets that say P & S on them, and the P is on the one with more holes.

I think salt has more holes. I'm thinking of salt and pepper shakers with the S and the P on them and I think S would take more holes. I definitely use more pepper than salt on food. I like salty popcorn but not salty foods.

I just found this. I have always been told the Pepper has more. I think I have always been told b/c you don't want to oversalt. ????

pepper w/ more holes b/c it's lighter.
