Vermont: Saturday, August 15

Everyone needs a break.

It doesn't have to be fancy. You just need to not be in your own home. You need no TV. Stay off your phone. Grab some coloring books and a few games and eat easy meals.

Sit outside. Listen to the birds. Watch the birds. Talk about the birds. Go see the birds. Take pictures of the birds. Love the birds.

(Oh. Wait. That may have been JB creeping into my brain for a moment.)

But really. Vacation. We don't need Disney World. In fact: if you asked my kiddos if they'd rather spend a week in Vermont or at Disney World, they'd tell you The Lake.

We haven't gone anywhere other than to grab a Maple Creamy up the road. Last night we stayed up late to just sit outside and watch the stars. Instead of turning on the TV or music, we sat and listened to Roy tell us hunting stories which were absolutely fascinating.

A few times John and I have started to talk about the ER or COVID, and we have immediately just stopped ourselves and instead shifted conversation to the present. There will be enough time for virus worries when we return home.

What's even better is that normally we are only here for 4-5 days. But because everything else we had planned was cancelled, we have doubled our time. TEN DAYS at our favorite place (other than our farm) on Earth.

Happy.

Peaceful.

Restful.

Sweet.
