That is beautiful Wen! Great job!!! Ryan is not a doctor, but he does work that has life/death consequences for people, and can save lives. Then he too comes home and blends right in to the tapestry of our family life. Like nothing crazy just occurred hours earlier. We have some keepers!

I totally agree Jenny. It isn't so much about what they are doing but the quality of person they are that they can switch roles so seamlessly!

Wendi, I have followed your blog since we met at that (ill-fated) dive medicine conference in Cozumel. My husband is now an ER doc too, and I am a SAHM to a toddler and an infant. This piece really captured what my experience has been as well. The ability to shift from the life or death decision making to the more mundane aspects of parenting is astounding. I only wish my husband shared MORE of his experiences at work, because it helps stop me from nagging or getting annoyed at undone tasks around the house. But he really prefers to leave work at the hospital, and I don't blame him for that. Anyway, thank you for such a well-written description of this life!
