.
Late last week, Abigail started running a temperature. Of course, a temp. is no parent's favorite thing, but normally, it's par for the course of parenthood.
Until COVID.
Now, every fever sends the entire family into a panic. At least in our "quarantine group" which includes eighteen people. You worry that if one person gets sick, seventeen others are in danger -- and specifically, one of those people is a doctor who the community cannot afford to lose for weeks at a time.
We are not afraid of COVID. We know, eventually, we will probably all face it. However, our Grama K. is higher risk, and our JB is fighting this on the front-lines, and we are really hoping to hold out a bit longer before it finds its ways into our house.
We've had four different people we know (Danny Lewis, our friend Toni, another unnamed friend, and now our neighbor Jeremy, who have all faced this with great difficulty.) Truly, for each of these people, a life-and-death battle was raging inside their bodies and we are so blessed that they have all made it to the other side.
But back to Abigail. She had a fever. We've separated from the Kotysnkis and grandparents for four days waiting to see what is going on. She got a COVID test two days ago.
But TODAY she started showing signs of a UTI (urinary tract infection.) Folks, I don't think any parent has ever jumped for joy when their kid starting showing UTI symptoms.
Until today.
I did.
John was sleeping in recover/preparation of his night shifts. But I knew this was probably why she had the fever, and I was so happy. This is not contagious! This is something that is NOT COVID.
Oh. Happy Day.
