We Bought a Farm: Chicken Chores

While Isaac heads up the ducks, Sidge is in charge of taking care of the chickens. This means feeding, watering, collecting eggs (we are getting close to 40 a day from our 132 chickens due to cold weather), and keeping an eye on how they are doing. Joni went with him to do the chores and captured some photos of our boy doing his thing.

P.S. We lost a chicken today to a hawk .... again. I was so proud of Sidge. He carried the dead chicken all the way up to the house by himself to properly dispose of it. (We feed everything we can to the pigs so that nothing goes to waste.) Joni said that at one point he tried to hand her the chicken so he could fill up the water. She did not accept his offer. This kid is such a farmer. The animals and farm bring him incredible joy. I can't see him ever not living on this farm. It really seems like it is in him!

Showing off the ice on top of the water that morning!

Joni likes to eat chicken feed. True story. :)

Every morning around 8am, Sidge goes out and opens up the chicken door to let the chickens out.

Here come the chickens!

Yes, that is Sidge putting bunny ears on a chicken.

More bunny ears.

Checking water.

Water is good.

Joni thinks the water is doubly good. Sidge took this picture!

I should also note that Sidge has chosen, as an extra responsibility to take care of the sheep for one straight month. He wants to earn a special toy and so he asked for something he can do for that. Here he is on one of his first days taking care of the sheep.
