Joan's parents were in town at the same time as us! This meant Isaac was able to meet his biological great grandparents for the first time. Opa and Oma (that's grandpa and grandma in Dutch) are from Holland. They actually speak 4.5 languages! (George says he cannot hold a political conversation in German and thus it cannot count fully!) They are in their 80's but as young and spry as always. I have met them many times, but was so excited for Isaac to get to meet them. Here they are sharing smarties, and taking a picture with brother and sister!
George has written a small book about his life, and I have been promised a copy. I was especially interested in the part where his wife flew over to America for the first time, by herself, with to children: 16 months and 6 weeks when she did not speak the language! She got lost transferring between New York City airports and missed her plane. You think what I just did was hard. Imagine doing it when you can't speak the language. They moved to South Africa in the late 40's early 50's and Joan was born there, but she spent the rest of her life in the Wisconsin area.
I am so blessed that Isaac can have an attachment to this part of his life -- a huge part of the little boy he is and the man he will become.
