Review: World Watch News

I'm teaching a history class to ten kids here in this house. And part of that is supposed to include current events. However, like many of you, I'm very frustrated with how the media is painting things lately. I'm also afraid to let my kids watch the news in case they are exposed to topics that are just too "big" for them. In the end, we end up not talking about a lot of things because it is just too hard to weed through things.

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon World Watch News

Each weekday, a new ten minute video on current events is shared with our students. Students can learn what's going on in the world with video news just for them! It's educational. It's timely. And it's interesting. Like, seriously, not boring AT ALL!

All ten kids have enjoyed these newscasts, and the older kids (ages 11 and up) are actually looking forward to doing them each day of class. They are incredibly well done, timely, neutral in content, educational, interesting, fun ... I could go on and on.

At the end of each episode, host Brian Basham (aka "The Big Bash") ends with: "Remember, what ever the news, the purpose of the Lord will stand." However, while this is a Christian program, I have not found incredibly "right-leaning" newscasts either. Instead it has seemed to present the news as unbiasedly as possible which is incredibly refreshing.

And it isn't just news. There are many stories that are just interesting. An example: More New Yorkers are birding lately for something to do because so many other activities are shut down.

The program costs $79.99 a year or $9.99 a month. I received my first month free in exchange for my honest review. However, I can tell you honestly, it is a service we will continue in this house. (I've also seen some Facebook ads showing a $50 coupon, but I can't find an exact link to it.)
